I was not someone who had hit rock bottom. I was someone who had just quietly given alcohol way too much real estate in my head. Running on empty, waking at 3am being mean to myself, and using wine to survive a life that felt like too much.

What I wanted was simple. A take it or leave it relationship. Where it was a non-issue. Where I could have one glass and stop, or none, and not spend the rest of the night thinking about it.

What I discovered on the way there changed everything. Not because I found willpower or made a forever commitment. Because I finally understood what was actually going on.
